Origins:

FableHaven, a world born of magic set within simplistic times; inhabited by a myriad of creatures that were mythical, strange, fearsome and always wondrous. Yet centuries ago this would all change with the arrival of other worldly visitors.

With them the visitors brought knowledge and power. Many content to share and live among the Haviens while others wished to make themselves rulers and gods.

Now FableHaven is a new world that has made tremendous strides in steam-powered technologies; yet also shows the scars upon the land itself that are reminders of darker deeds and souls.

CHAPTER TWO

Born within the once proud Realm of Darkness where true freedom could be found, Ragnar was among the ruling class with his family members holding the throne. But after years of a successful run, the Dark Realm turned into but a sliver of its former glory. Why did this happen?

There were two main causes. A weak male heir to the throne that chose to follow his hormones rather than care for the best interest of his brethren. An overly motherly queen who eventually collapsed into a sad excuse of a ruler.

The Dark Realm was at the edge of collapsing. It got to the point where the Light Realm might have believed that the Dark was defeated forever... But this would not be; for Ragnar had enough.

Walking up to his cousin's throne, he threw the queen off from it. Claiming it as /his/ throne, his first order of business was to rename the Dark Realm. It would now be known as the Stygian Empire. The next order of business, allowing the queen to keep her title. Ragnar would now be known as 'the Emperor of Darkness' He who would see to it that the Light would disappear from the world.

(Neutral Realm)

When the Creators build the world from ice crystals and stardust, life bloomed in the shadows of forest trees before the first living creatures emerged from the primordial seas. For you see, all life has a heartbeat, and the heart of the world beat so strong that She birthed a being into life that was and is Her heart incarnate. The Creators called her 'se Ilvalain Sairi'- in the Common tongue 'the Impossible Woman'- for in their eyes what an impossibility it was that a planet could birth such a being. Yet there she was all the same- the Eldest, and the first of many- and the dark trees of that ancient forest were her domain, the cradle of birth for her and her kin.

Living beings began to crawl from the waters. Trade, resources, conquests and wars spread them out across the lands and over time rumours began to spread. Always those at the forest edge would watch the trees with a wary eye, for whispers were passed from commoners to kings about the monster who dwelled in that ancient land. Children were locked up nice and tight for fear one of the monster's kin would steal them in the night. Travelers were discouraged from the roads, lest odd lights in the distance and the strain of weariness let them be led astray.

'Stay close to home' those with wanderlust would hear their parents say 'lest the forest kin bring you to their mistress who will steal your soul away'.

For ages the world lived in fear of what lie within the shadowed lands. None dared travel into those woods, for those that disappeared between those trees were never seen again. Eventually the forest grew silent, slipping into a dormant sleep. Over time, like many things, the whispers and fears of the dread forest monster faded into suspicion. Even longer and suspicions slipped into legend, what was once the stuff of nightmares now little more than a forgotten tale from a long forgotten time.

Realms of Light and Dark sprung up in the world with the forest serving as an impassable wall between them. Turmoil and discourse bubbled between the opposing realms. Both remained at each other's throats with no bridge or ground of neutrality between them, until the day when reports would reach the ears of both the Light and Dark realm queens of a manor house erected at the heart of the antediluvian borderlands.

By next full moon, a raven would come delivering a missive to heads of both noble houses which read thusly:

"Serene and gracious majesties,

My King and I have travelled from the Northern lands to reclaim this forgotten woodland as a peaceful and neutral realm. My eyes see the suffering in the shadows that the world is content to leave unseen. My ears hear the cries and prayers of the hopeless that go unanswered in the night. It is my intention to offer unto this land a haven- a place of peace and respite- and to that end my King and I have built within the Forbidden Forests our Sanctuary.

So let the starving come to me, and I will give them food aplenty. Those who are broken and battered shall find healing within these trees. Let those who are wayward and lost come to me, and I will guide their way, regardless of their origin, for they call me 'Doctor Evelyn Sairi'. I am the Giving Tree that will facilitate their needs. And you, oh gracious majesties, may call upon me whenever you've need of my services and council. Simply send word by raven and my watchman will arrange for accommodations or visitations.
